Two women end lives in City

Two women, including the wife of a software engineer, allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in the City in the past two days.

Soumya, a 25-year-old homemaker, was found hanging dead at her house in old Chennasandra in Kadugodi on Monday night.

An MTech graduate, she was married to Vishwanath from Bijapur, one-and-a-half-year ago. The incident came to light when Vishwanath returned home around 7 pm.

Hanumantharaya, the father of Soumya, in a complaint has stated that Vishwanath, his brother Satish and their relatives harassed Soumya for dowry.

She ended her life as she could not bear the harassment, according to the complaint. Police have taken Vishwanath into custody.

In another incident, a 20-year-old woman allegedly hanged herself at her house in Kaverinagar slum in Banashankari.

Ashwini was married to Nagesh an year ago. She is said to have ended her life when her husband and mother-in-law were fast asleep. Reason for Ashwini’s extreme step is yet to be ascertained, police said.

However, Jayalakshmi, mother of Ashwini told police that  Nagesh and Thimmakka harassed her daughter for dowry and Ashwini had told her about the harassment. Police have arrested Nagesh.
