V S Ugrappa, chairperson, Legislative Committee on Women and Child Safety who visited Maharani’s college following a tussle between two student groups, said students have been used as pawns in a larger political gameplan.

He said this was a fallout of differences between Commerce lecturer Naraya-naswamy and principal Komala.

He said the college grievance redressal cell was not functioning as per rules laid down by the Vishaka Committee. “Students say they face sexual harassment and authorities have tried to hush them. We have asked the principal to look into these cases,” he said.
