Mayor N Shantakumari on Wednesday said the Ulsoor Lake would be developed and made user-friendly under the ‘Nanna Bengaluru, Nanna Koduge,’ project.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), along with the Prestige Group, will comprehensively develop the lake, she said. “It would be beautified and made a tourist spot,” she added.

The lake is known for its poor maintenance as garbage is dumped into it on a regular basis. Even as a purification unit has been set up, it appears to be of no use as the drainage water from Shivajinagar and surrounding areas is let into the lake.

On seeing plastic bags and other garbage floating on the lake water, Shantakumari took the officials to task.

Deputy Mayor K Ranganna, who was enraged on the sight of unclean toilets on the lake premises, said: “Hundreds of people throng the place on weekends. They come here to get some fresh air and relax. The stench of these toilets will only drive them away.”
