With summer vacations in full swing, Cubbon Park is turning into a hotspot for visitors.

To capitalise on this, some young men are offering paid horse rides to visitors illegally. On Thursday, the lack of medical facilities in the park came to light after a young boy broke his arm during a ride.

During afternoons, one can find two to three horses roaming within the park, posing a threat not only to motorists but to the animals too.

“I had strictly prohibited horse rides within the park. Those offering the rides are not professional and the rides could prove risky to customers, who are mostly young children. The park management will be blamed for allowing such activities. Horse riding is strictly prohibited in the park. Action will be taken against those offering such unauthorised activities,” said Mahantesh Murgod, deputy director of the Horticulture Department (Cubbon Park).

“A child fell down while riding a horse in the park. He might have broken his arm,” a security guard at the park told DH.

There are no medical or emergency facilities in the park in case of any accidents.
