There’s no doubt that college fests are the most fun events on campus. This is especially true when it comes to cultural fests — during these, one can see students taking a break from studies and showcasing their talents on stage with enthusiasm. This is exactly what happened recently at Surana College, when they held their annual cultural fest Varnotsava.

Since the theme for this edition of the fest was ‘colours’, the campus was decorated beautifully and the students had taken the time to decorate their classrooms as well. The entire quadrangle had a carnival feel to it and there were many stalls with games and food. Fun activities were taking place in every corner and there was also a DJ, who kept the tempo of the fest going.

Students and the staff came dressed in their traditional best and the participants put up a grand show with the fashion show, dances, music and even the literary events. Some of the highlights were the tug of war, the poster-making competition and the rangoli competition.

The two-day fest also saw the teachers take part in fun events like musical chairs, a lemon-and-spoon race, the relay and the five-legged race. The fest also included flash mobs and impromptu dancing by the students sitting in the audience.

Another highlight was the classroom decoration competition. Each class was given a colour and they were judged on how the students interpreted it. The second-semester BCA students, who had got the colour yellow, came first. Fourth-semester students bagged the second prize — their colour was black and they interpreted it by converting the classroom into a scary house. There were also prizes given to the stalls that generated the maximum revenue in the quadrangle. The first prize went to the ice-gola stand. All in all, it was a welcome break for the students.
