Ahead of Ugadi, markets are seeing a rise in the prices of fruits and vegetables, with consumers fearing the rates will skyrocket further.

Vendors, however, noted that the rising temperature was also a contributing factor for the uptick in the prices.

In the Vijayanagar market, beans and drumsticks were priced at Rs 180 and Rs 150 per kg, respectively. The price of bell peppers (red variety) in Hopcoms was Rs 136 per kg.

“Due to the soaring temperatures, storing vegetables and fruits has become a problem. Supply has taken a hit. The price for drumsticks went up from Rs 100 per kg to over Rs 150,” said Yallamma, a vendor.
