Members of the Peoples’ Power organisation have urged the State government to form a fast-track panel to look into the atrocities committed against civilians by the Special Task Force (STF) formed to catch forest brigand Veerappan years ago.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Manivannan, executive director, Peoples Power, said: “Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments formed the STF to nab Veerappan in 1990. Under the STF regime, about 60 people from both the states were killed in fake encounters. The STF also tortured tribal women and crimes were committed against them.”

Tribal women who attended the conference complained about the torture they underwent.

Withdrawal of all gallantry awards and reward sites conferred on  Special Task Force  personnel, rehabilitation of  Special Task Force  victims were some of the demands put forth by them. They said they will soon meet the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and hand over a memorandum with their demands.
