Victoria Hospital will get a trauma care centre with a 40-bed-unit for disaster management and another 40-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), said Dr P K Devadas, the Dean of Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI).
Speaking on the sidelines of the MBBS graduation day celebrations, the Dean said, “The Trauma Centre will be functional from next month. The construction has begun and the Centre will also house a food court and gym. The total cost of the project is Rs 130 crore.”
Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil said that the focus was to make BMRCI the number one institute in India.
The minister later took part in the National Programme for Control of Blindness held by the Lions Club of Bengaluru North Charitable Trust and Minto Ophthalmology Hospital. Devadas, who was also present at the event said that Minto Hospital would be developed on a par with Shankar Nethralaya.
A new building at an estimated cost of Rs eight crore would be operational at the campus, he said.
“Minto hospital will be developed to become a state of the art ophthalmology centre in Karnataka. It will have eight operation theatres and a separate centre for treating glaucoma, eye cancer, diabetic eye and squint eye correction. In two months time, this facility will be made available to the public," said Dr Devadas.
