Victoria Hospital, one of the biggest multispeciality government hospital in the City, is not disabled friendly.

The hospital does not have dedicated toilets for the disabled and the existing toilets do not have commode facility or any railings as a support for disabled persons.

Not just the toilets, the hospital does not have accessible ramps or proper wheelchairs to facilitate movement of the disabled.

The deficits came to light during an inspection conducted by K S Rajanna, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities here on Saturday.

“I had written to all the hospitals in the City to make their building disabled-friendly, but here we do not have toilets for the disabled. I have asked the hospital authorities to construct the toilets in a month,” he added.

Dr P K Devdas, Medical Superintendent, Victoria Hospital, said the Public Works Department was entrusted with the maintenance of the hospital.

The task has now been entrusted to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited since the services of the PWD was not up to mark.
