Village students outshine city peers in SSLC examPass percentage in rural areas is 80.36 and that in urban areas is 77.63

SSLC students from rural areas of the state have performed better than those from the urban areas this year, show statistics provided by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB).

While the pass percentage in rural areas is 80.36, that in urban areas is 77.63. Out of the 52 schools that have recorded zero percentage, just three are government, six aided and 43 unaided schools. In all, 1,569 schools from across the state have a cent percent result.

Eleven unaided schools in Kalaburagi district have recorded 0% result against no 0% result in any of the government or aided schools. In Chitradurga, five unaided schools and four each in Gadag, Bidar and Ballari have reported 0% pass.

Commissioner of Public Instruction V Ponnuraj said that the results were low in schools which had composite colleges along with high schools. While in government junior colleges, the pass percentage is 58.43, that of schools excluding government junior college is 75.34%.

The highest pass percentage has been reported in third language at 92.79%. This is followed by 91.06% in first language, 89.7% in social science, 88% in second language, 85.97% in science and 85.46% in mathematics.

Overall results

The overall results this year are 2% less compared to the previous year. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Rathnakar said that the pass percentage had gone down as the examination was conducted under strict vigilance.

“CCTV cameras were installed and officials from the education department kept a constant watch during the exam. Across the state, 76 students were caught indulging in malpractices,” he said.

In Kalaburagi, 17 students were found indulging in malpractices.
