Bengaluru: The Cubbon Park Walkers' Association staged a silent candlelight gathering on Sunday evening near the Queen Victoria statue outside Bal Bhavan, demanding the cancellation of New Year’s Eve celebrations in the park.

Association president Umesh K argued that such celebrations violate park regulations and disturb wildlife.

The Cubbon Park Conservation Committee, chaired by the secretary of the Horticulture Department, has explicitly prohibited activities like alcohol consumption, smoking, loud music, and bursting crackers within the park, Umesh pointed out.

“Some clubs located within the park are planning grand celebrations, flouting these rules. We request the police to intervene and prevent these celebrations, which disrupt the peaceful environment and disturb the birds and small animals in the park," Umesh said.

"Strict action should be taken against clubs and individuals violating the ban," he added.
