<p>Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday warned of strict action against individuals misbehaving with people and breaking the law during New Year celebrations in the city. </p><p>"Consider this as a request or even a warning. No one should break the law during New Year celebrations,” Shivakumar warned. He was speaking to reporters after a book launch at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. </p><p>"Across Bengaluru, over 10,000 cameras have been installed to monitor people's movements. The majority of these cameras (7,500) were installed under the Safe City Project, while the police have installed 817 cameras in major party hotspots. </p><p>The deputy chief minister said that in the wake of public mourning following the passing away of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, only government programmes had been cancelled. Private programmes and celebrations can go on, he stated. </p><p>Shivakumar asked the youth to remain extra careful and behave appropriately, saying all their movements will be monitored. </p>.<p>Ahead of New Year's Eve, the Bengaluru police have seized contraband worth a whopping Rs 25.20 crore by arresting 73 people, including three foreigners. Fifty-four cases have been opened against drug peddlers. </p><p>The police's canine squad has also swung into action, conducting operations in the CBD and other major areas. Sniffer dog handlers were seen examining party hotspots as part of security checks. </p><p>"We will cover the entire city and check for any suspicious items," a canine handler on Church Street said. </p>.<p>Besides 11,830 police officers, who will be deployed for security during the New Year bash, 89 platoons of the Karnataka State Police Reserve platoons (KSRP) and 23 platoons of the City Armed Reserve (CAR) will also be pressed into service. </p><p>KSRP and CAR platoons have already been deployed at major party places to watch suspicious activities and prevent untoward incidents. </p>
