Over 300 families living in Govindapura at Nagavara here, are plagued by acute shortage of drinking water.

According to Abdul Wahab, a resident, the problem has been there for about four-five years now and that they had complained about it to the mayor in July last.

“The mayor had directed the officials concerned to look into the matter and solve our problem. But nobody has acted on the mayor’s directions,” he said. “The mayor had directed the officials to dig a well and install an electric pump to draw water to cater to the needs of citizens, ,” Sultana Begum, another resident said.

The residents had also complained to Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF). “We have made representations to former minister D K Shiva Kumar, local MLA George and even Irshad Begum, the corporator. But there has been no action,” another resident pointed out.
Concurring, Corporator Irshad Begum said: “There is an acute shortage and letters have been written to BWSSB to provide Cauvery water, but nothing much has happened here. With borewells drying up, we have sought permission to drill six additional borewells.”
