Though Rafale, Advanced Hawk and Tejas were parked hardly 50 metres away, visitors were no less enthralled by the miniature and scaled-down models of planes, helicopters and tankers on display at the stall of Precision Scale Models of India.
The city-based company has been producing the precision models for DRDO, Isro and other government agencies involved in building aerial vehicles for the last two decades.
“I started the company 35 years ago at a small place in Nandini Layout. First, we made models of Vajra Radar and HMT’s CNC machines before we got contract from Isro to make models of Aryabhata and other satellites,” said K N Sridhar, MD (marketing).
He said the company had grown beyond his expectations as he got contracts to design models of many military products, besides aerial vehicles. “Today, many products in design stage across the country come to us,” Sridhar said.
“Precision models provide inputs on possible glitches in design, besides a chance to improve the product’s look,” he said. “We prepared the model of the light combat aircraft for the Navy (Tejas LCA Mark 1) and its advanced version (Mark 2). We are proud we got contract from UK’s BAE Systems for the model of Hawk and Israel’s drone Heron,” he said.
The company recently built a model of the next generation of HAL’s advanced medium combat aircraft. “It may take more than 10 years to make the plane itself. But you can see how it looks right now,” he said.
