Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bengaluru on Tuesday said intolerance existed among people and it was not something new.

“Where there are people, there is intolerance. There are issues and problems among people. We have to develop faith in God as well as people and thereby find a solution,” he said.

He was responding to a question from the media on the sidelines of an annual programme organised by the Bangalore Archdiocese to celebrate Christmas.

“With the message of Pope Francis to observe the new year as the ‘Year of Mercy’, we will carry forward the same message and spread love among people of all communities,” he said.

Moras said the archdiocese planned to launch two programmes specifically for the welfare of the disabled and migrants from North Karnataka and North India.

Calling upon the people to preserve the environment for the future generation, he said the archdiocese had proposed concrete action plans in the families and institutions towards achieving the two goals.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah cut a cake and unveiled a statue of the Baby Jesus in the crib, marking Christmas celebrations.

Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, Minister for Haj and Information R Roshan Baig and former governor of Rajasthan Margaret Alva were present.
