The Associated Management of Schools in Karnataka (KAMS) and the Karnataka State Private Schools’ Management Federation (KSPSMF) have asked the Department of Public Instruction to withdraw its list of unauthorised schools in the City, published recently, since there were “several discrepancies” in the list.

“A number of schools identified as unauthorised, are those where seats have been allotted under RTE quota. How could they be unauthorised if they have got the nod from the department to give out these seats? Most of these schools in the list are those whose request to convert to English medium from Kannada medium following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the issue of Language policy, is pending.

The matter is also in the High Court,” said D Shashi Kumar, general secretary, KAMS. He also pointed out an instance where a school that had received permission to run in 1996 was wrongly included in the list.

He also urged the government to revise the amount given as reimbursement for RTE quota seats. “While reimbursements are provided as per last year’s expenditure, schools provide services as per this year’s expenditure which amounts to 15 percent to 20 percent loss,” he said.
