Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police arrested a woman for allegedly cheating over 20 affluent women of around Rs 30 crore.
The police said the suspect met the victims at kitty parties. She cited senior political leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, to gain their trust.
Investigations by the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police, following an Rs 86-lakh cheating case, revealed the woman exploited politicians' names. The police also uncovered an arrest in May in Govindaraj Nagar for an earlier Rs 2.50-crore cheating case. She was later released on bail.
An officer explained her method: the suspect identified wealthy women and invited them to kitty parties. There, she named prominent politicians, convincing victims of her connections and urging them to invest. The probe showed the suspect claimed to have contacts for importing inexpensive gold from Dubai and other countries.
