Forty-seven-year-old Hamsa, who pumped at least three bullets into her husband’s abdomen after a spat in their SUV on May 5, was remanded in judicial custody by a court on Monday.

Her husband, M R Sairam (52), is being treated at Sparsh Hospital but is yet to regain consciousness. Investigating officials have not yet recorded his statement. The jurisdictional Suryanagar police had booked Hamsa for attempt to murder.

The couple had quarrelled over their daughter’s marriage proposal while driving back to their HSR Layout house. The quarrel turned violent as the vehicle reached Thirumagondanahalli in southern Bengaluru. Sairam punched Hamsa who was at the wheel, prompting her to take her gun and shoot him.

An injured Sairam then got off the car and boarded a BMTC bus. But Hamsa followed him for 6-7 kilometres before intercepting the bus and dragging him out. Fellow passengers, however, overpowered her and called the police.
