The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) on Friday observed 'World Skin Health Day' to highlight the importance of skin hygiene and also the abuse of topical steroid creams and prevention of quackery.

The association will also start 'Skin Safar', a knowledge campaign about awareness on skin hygiene and diseases, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari for three months.

The use of steroid creams to lighten skin colour, not only produces undesirable side-effects on the body but also aggravates social evil of quest for fair skin. This quest has many gullible young women and men fall prey to the menace of abuse of steroid resulting a damaged skin and a damaged psyche, the association said in a statement.
