A 19-year-old youngster is feared to have drowned in a lake in Mangammanapalya, Southeast Bengaluru, on Sunday morning.

Salam is a mason and a resident of Mangammanapalya, who had come to swim along with two of his friends at the lake as it was a holiday, his parents told the police.

According to the police, the incident happened between 11.30 am and 12 noon when Salam's frightened friends ran away from the spot after informing a few locals nearby. The locals rushed to the spot. They informed the police around 2 pm, who in turn alerted the fire and emergency services.

Reaching the spot about 2.15 pm, the fire and emergency team began scouring the lake. Salam's slippers and T-shirt, left lying at the bank, were handed over to his family.

As it started raining and the sunlight faded, the search was called off on Sunday evening and will resume on Monday morning, a senior police officer said.

The Bandepalya police are overseeing the search operations and will register a case of unnatural death when they retrieve Salam's body and receive a complaint from his parents.
