Ashokapuram police took a Bengaluru-based couple, identified as Naresh and Madhura, into custody on Sunday for allegedly cheating residents in the city to the tune of Rs 5 crore. The couple were later released after investigation.

Police said the couple were running a business in Kuvempunagar in the city and had cheated their employee Aravind to the tune of Rs 2 crore.

The couple allegedly took a loan of Rs 2 crore against Aravind's house without bringing it to the notice of Aravind. The couple managed to obtain the documents of the house from Aravind after assuring him a high income business. They later obtained the loan from Karnataka Bank. The crime came to light only after the bank served a notice to Aravind.
