Writer K S Bhagawan, who is frequently in the news for his criticism of Hindu scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Hindu deities like Rama and Krishna, received 20 threat calls on his mobile phone within a span of two hours here on Sunday evening.

The writer has lodged a complaint with the Kuvempunagar police in this regard. According to the complaint, he received the calls from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm from various numbers. The callers used foul language and threatened to kill him.

The writer said that he switched off his mobile phone at 8.30 pm as it became unbearable for him to take the calls.

According to a senior police official, steps have been taken to trace the origin of the calls. The writer had received a threat letter at his residence on Udayaravi Road in Kuvempunagar on September 9. The police security to Bhagawan has been strengthened since the murder of another writer M M Kalburgi in Dharwad. He had been provided police protection earlier also, due to warnings from some organisations.
