With an aim to create awareness on donating blood and its role in saving lives, Jaycee Bellare members in association with Indian Red Cross Society (DK district) organised a two-day bike rally 'Spandana Yatra' to spread the message to different parts of undivided DK district.

Flagging off the rally, Indian Red Cross Society (DK district) President Dr Muralee Mohan Choonthar stressed on the importance of blood donation. Stating that the Indian Red Cross Society district branch will soon start a website, he said that the people will get information on prospective donors on this website.

Jaycee Zone XV Convenor Preetham said one can get information on blood donors via SMS. In case one needs blood, then SMS - GETSTD CodeBlood Group to 09791747474.

The rally has kicked off on Saturday at JCI Puttur and will visit Vittla, Surathkal, Mulki, Padubidri, Kapu, Katpadi, Udhyavara, Udupi, Parkala, Manipal, Kalianpur, Shankaranarayan, Hebri, Karkala, Belmman, Moodbidri, Bantwal, Madanthayar and other places.Over 25,000 pamphlets have been printed and 500 will be distributed at various pit-stops, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, IRCS (Dakshina Kannada unit) Secretary Suresh Kumar said that there is a lot of misconception among people on blood donation, which needs to be clarified. “The rally is one such attempt,” he said.
