The members of the association staged a protest dharna in front of the taluk office here on Monday and expressed their objection towards the move. They also took out a jatha from Samaja Mandir to the taluk office.
The protesters also demanded proper distribution of books in each hostel, establishment of a fulfledged library, separate hostels for students of vocational courses, additional buildings for SC/ST girls hostel, special teachers for the residential hostels.
The demands included solution for water woes, increase in scholarship amount, provision of generator to hostels, play ground and sports equipments. The students raised slogans against officials and the government. They displayed the clothings and food supplied at the hostels to highlight their plight. The protest was withdrawn after the officials listened to their demands and gave assurances.
