Six people were killed in a car-lorry collision at Devarayapatna on the outskirts of Hassan on Wednesday morning.

The deceased had been identified as Indresh, Pradeep, Rajesh, Ramesh, Madhukumar and Shashikumar, all aged between 19 and 28.

Pradeep, from Nidanur in Sakleshpur, worked in Bangalore and his cousin Indresh had joined him there a few days ago. The severely injured Pradeep breathed his last on the way to a hospital in Bangalore.

Indresh, Rajesh and Ramesh died instantaneously.

Madhukumar and Shashikumar succumbed to their injuries at Government Hospital in Hassan.

The duo and four of their friends were on their way to Nidanur in an Indica car, to celebrate Pradeep’s birthday on Wednesday.

The car, moving on the wrong side at the spot where the highway meets the bypass road, collided with the sand-laden lorry coming from the opposite direction.

A case has been registered at the Hassan traffic police station.
