Accusing the Congress government in Karnataka of being in “deep slumber”, BJP leader R Ashoka said on Sunday that his party would protest this “inaction” in the coming days.
The Siddaramaiah government has been “in a coma” ever since it assumed charge and has “failed on all fronts”, he told reporters, adding that the BJP would stage protests during the Legislature session set to begin in Belagavi on Tuesday.
The government has failed to provide remunerative prices to sugar cane farmers. Last year, a farmer committed suicide in front of the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi. But the government hasn’t done anything to provide justice to farmers, Ashoka claimed.
He also suggested that law and order had “broken down” in the State. Sexual assaults on women have gone up alarmingly. Parents are anxious about the safety of their children in schools. The government hasn’t taken any concrete step to find solutions to these problems, he charged.
The BJP, he went on, has decided to stage peaceful protests both inside and outside the House during the Legislature session. It is ready to co-operate with the government in running the session if it comes out with concrete solutions to all the problems, he said.
When asked about Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi taking part in a party rally in Belagavi on December 21, Ashoka welcomed his visit, saying he had been helping the BJP in its effort to make the country “Congress-free”.
“The Congress gets wiped out wherever he (Rahul) goes. Karnataka will soon be free of Congress if he comes to Karnataka. So we wholeheartedly welcome him to Karnataka,” he stated.
