Mangaluru: The BJP staged a protest against the chopping of udders of cows at Chamarajpet in central Bengaluru, in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, MLC Ravi Kumar said, "The state government is not providing protection to cows. It is only engaged in giving empty assurances. The incident in Chamarajpet is a matter of shame for human society. Udders of cows were chopped, and CCTV cameras were turned off to commit the crime."
"The government claims to have arrested a person from Bihar, but this is just an eyewash," he alleged.
"In rural areas, cow trafficking and slaughter continues unchecked. Neither cows nor humans are safe," Kumar went on. If the government cannot protect cows, it should step down, he demanded.
"The owner should receive a compensation of at least Rs 5 lakh each. Efforts were made by communal forces to vacate the land meant for a veterinary hospital at Chamarajpet. That land should instead be converted into a gaushala," he added.
"The government should blacklist those involved in cow slaughter. Does the government have courage to arrest such individuals? If Congress claims to follow Gandhian principles, they should be ashamed," he fumed.
Speaking about the incident, MLC Pratap Simha Nayak said, "It was an attempt to instill fear among those who worship cows. Such incidents prove that the Congress government is supporting anti-social activities. The government should take strict action to restore public confidence."
BJP district president Satish Kumpala said, "Under Siddaramaiah's government, neither Hindu youths nor cows are safe. Instead of punishing cow slaughterers, the government is offering them protection. Atrocities against Hindus are increasing. In Dakshina Kannada district, those attempting to stop cow trafficking are being arrested under the Goonda Act. The culprits behind the Chamarajpet incident should be arrested immediately." MLC Kishore Kumar also spoke.
Pejawar seer condemns incident
Condemning the incident, Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt in a video statement, said, “A disturbing incident occurred in Chamarajpet, Karnataka.” He emphasised that cows are gentle creatures, akin to the earth in their innocence. The term 'cow' itself represents purity and harmlessness, he said.
The seer urged the government to impose strict action to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.
