As many as 3.52 lakh members have joined the BJP after party national president Amit Shah visited Bengaluru on January 3 and reviewed the ongoing membership drive.

According to a release from the party, an average of 58,000 people have enrolled themselves as the members in the last one week. Altogether, the BJP has so far enrolled 18.63 lakh new members. Shah, who directed the State unit to take up the drive aggressively, has set a target to get one crore new members in the State.
Shah’s visit has prompted the State Congress to speed up its own membership drive in the State. KPCC chief G Parameshwara recently held the party executive committee meeting and directed the leaders to involve themselves in the drive.
The party has set a target to get 50 lakh new members by February end. JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda has convened a meeting of his party leaders and workers on January 24 to finalise a plan to strengthen the party. Gowda is likely to announce his plan to tour the State.
