BJP corporators S K Nataraj and N Dayanand were elected unanimously to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively in the first meeting of the BBMP Council on Friday. With this the BJP came to power in the urban local body for the first time.
The BJP declared the candidates for the posts at a meeting of senior leaders held at a hotel earlier in the day. Both of them submitted their nomination papers to Returning Officer G M Dhananjay.
The Congress with 65 members and the JD(S) with 15 members in the Council did not field candidates. The returning officer declared Nataraj and Dayanand elected unopposed. The newly elected members took oath of office at Kempe Gowda Council Hall.
