Boy who fell into sambar vessel dies

A two-and-a-half-year-old boy, who was admitted to Victoria Hospital with severe burns after he fell into a vessel containing hot sambar at a school kitchen on September 27, died on Monday morning.

Doctors at Victoria Hospital said Manoj Gowda, a native of Malur, died at 9.30 am. He had suffered 50 per cent burns.

Gowda, the son of Manjula, an assistant cook for the State-sponsored midday meal scheme, accidentally fell into the sambar vessel at a government primary school in Malur, while his mother was busy preparing food in the kitchen.

Last month, a seven-year-old girl student of a government primary school in Gouribidanur taluk, Chikkaballapur district, died after falling into a sambar vessel.

Anusha, who was also treated at Victoria Hospital, died on September 18. A week earlier, another boy, Santosh Parappa Hanumannanavar of Chikkodi taluk in Belgaum district, died in a similar mishap on September 10.
