The duo entered the river with their uncle Manikanta. When their uncle slipped into the river, they saved him, but the boys were washed away in a strong current. A 15-member group had come from Bengaluru for the rituals, when the mishap occurred.

Fire personnel and local divers were pressed into service, but the bodies are yet to be fished out.

Hundreds of people, take a dip in the Cauvery Sangama every day. But, there are no caution boards warning them of whirlpools in the river.
