A Border Security Force (BSF) constable from the taluk has died on duty in Assam, in a boat accident Wednesday evening.

J Jayaramegowda (32), a native of Agrahara Bachalli in the taluk, was transporting food to BSF personnel in the Indo-Bangla border around 6.45 pm, when the mishap occurred.

The boat, in which he was crossing a river, capsized due to a strong current of wind and he drowned.

Jayaramegowda, sixth and last son of Doddajavaregowda and Nanjamma, was joined the BSF in 2002. He was married to Mamatha six years ago and has a daughter Lakshmi.

Family sources said, he was in the village only two months ago for the Balachallamma festival and he had spoken to his mother and wife over telephone only 30 minutes before the accident.

Sources said, the mortal remains would arrive at Agrahara Bachalli by Friday evening and arrangements are being made for the cremation with government honours.
