The High Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa in connection with a private complaint filed by industrialist Alam Pasha in the Lokayukta court, accusing him and former minister Murugesh Nirani of forgery and cancelling an industrial site land alloted him.
Justice Anand Byra Reddy granted anticipatory bail to Yeddyurappa after hearing submissions by both the parties. The court directed Yeddyurappa to produce a bond of Rs one lakh and surety and not to tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses. The judge also directed the former chief minister to attend the Lokayukta court proceedings without fail. The court observed that the bail would be cancelled if any of the directions are violated.
According to the complaint filed by Pasha in the Lokayukta court, Yeddyurappa and Nirani had allegedly written to the government forging his signatures stating that his company was no longer interested in undertaking the project.
Following this, a high-level committee had cancelled the project by withdrawing 26 acres of land allotted for a Rs 600-crore project during the GIM in June 2010.
