Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to direct Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George to govern the State with “seriousness.”

In a two-page letter addressed to Rajnath, he has said that the Union Home Ministry should instruct the State police on the need for strengthening the law enforcement machinery, in the wake of increasing cases of rape.

“The police in the lower rung should be given strict instructions that there will be zero-tolerance with regards to such incidents and hence, there is no question of diluting the issue while filing the FIR,” the letter said.

Besides, the BJP MP advocated the need for making moral education compulsory in schools to make youth more responsible. The Union HRD Ministry should evolve a mechanism to introduce compulsory moral education in all primary and middle schools in the
country.

“Morals and ethics imparted at tender age, both at home as well as in school, would make the youth more responsible, careful and disciplined. The present concept of education aims at seeking lucrative employment and enjoying material benefits,” he added.
