An attempt is being made to take Kannada language to the coma state, following an extreme fascination towards English language, warned writer Kum Veerabhadrappa. He was speaking at the valediction of the 13th Kannada literary meet at Chikkamagaluru on Sunday.

Kum Vee said the rich should construct Kannada schools and thereby work towards strengthening the language. An attempt is being made to sacrifice Kannada medium schools to protect the interest of private schools. Politicians who neglect Kannada should be boycotted.

The writer said that those who enrol their children in Kannada medium schools will not spend the twilight of their lives in homes for the aged. Instead, those who enrol their children to English medium schools are sure of spending part of their life in home for aged, he warned and appealed to the parents to teach moral values in life.

Literary meet president Dr K Marulasiddappa said that literary meets help in instilling good thoughts in people. When intolerance is on the rise, the literary meets should unite the people, he advised. Writer Belavadi Manjunatha was conferred Jilla Sahitya Siri award on the occasion.
