The call had been given to  protest communal violence in Miraj during a Ganesha procession. On Thursday night miscreants had set fire to four shops on Fort Road. As many as 16 city buses were stoned on Friday morning. Sensing the danger, the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation suspended bus service in the City. Autos too remained off the roads, causing great inconvenience to people who came from far-off places.

Barring a few medical shops, almost all the business establishments downed their shutters. Most of the schools and colleges too remained closed in the city. However, banks, financial institutions and government offices remained open.
