Burglary at candidates' gold shop

A group of four men and a woman burgled gold worth Rs 3 lakhs from a jewellery shop on Tuesday.

According to police, the miscreants who came in the guise of customers lifted the tray that comprised of seven “mangalsutras” weighing 140 grams in New Mangala Jewellers owned by Alevoor Yogish Acharya.

It is said that the same group had visited the shop a couple of days ago. The CCTV was not working and even after repair it could not produce the clear images of the miscreants. A case is registered in Udupi town police station.

Yogish Acharya and his wife Vandana Acharya have filed their nominations as independent candidates from Udupi assembly constituency.
