Three persons were killed on the spot and 15 others injured when a private bus collided with a stationary lorry on National Highway 4 near Motebennura in Byadagi taluk of Haveri district on Wednesday.

The impact was such that front portion of the Pune-Bangalore sleeper coach bus has completely mangled.

The dead have been identified as Mubarak Issaqsaaba Tahsildar, 23, of MK Hubli (Belgaum district), Mir Hussain Aliraj Rajan, 38, of Hassan and Sachin Suresh Muttigekara of Maharashtra.

Sangeetha Praveen Omprakash, 23, of Kolar Gold Fields, Atul Pure, 30, and A Shakiraj, 30, of Pune, Daniel Frank, 54, and Omprakash Shigaonkar, 31, of Maharashtra and Swathi, 31, of Tamil Nadu, are among the injured. They have been shifted to the district hospital in Haveri.

The bus driver has lost his two limbs. About 30 persons were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Patil and Byadagi Circle Inspector of Police M H Chikkareddy visited the spot.
