The Bahujan Vidyarthi Sangha convention decided to unitedly oppose the State government’s move to include lessons which are against the sovereignty of the Constitution in fifth and eighth standard textbooks.
Speaking after inaugurating ‘prathibha mela’ organised as part of Constitution Day by Bahujana Vidyarthi Sangha in Madikeri on Monday, Thinker A K Subbaiah and Bahujana Chaluvali leader N Mahesh opposed the textbooks which are against the Constitution.
Subbaiah said that in a lesson on ‘Vaidika kaala,’ it is said that Buddha was born in Nepal.
However, it does not mention that Nepal was part of India when Buddha was born. The lesson gives a wrong notion about Buddhism in the minds of the students. He said Chief Ministers who pledge by the Constitution conduct various rituals of a particular religion in their office. Yeddyurappa, Deve Gowda and other Chief Ministers have carried out various rituals belonging to a particular religion in their office.
“Constitution considers science as the religion of the country. There is a need to develop scientific temperament in the minds of the students. In the name of religion, superstition beliefs should not be spread in the society,” he said.
N Mahesh said social science textbook of eighth standard states that B N Rao was the creator of Indian constitution. The draft copy of constitution of B N Rao was okayed by Constitution Committee President Dr B R Ambedkar, thus insulting Ambedkar.
Bahujana Vidyarthi Sangha Kodagu unit president C C Sundaresh Maurya, Koodige DIET lecturer Krishnappa, Backward Classes and Minority department district officer H D Puttaraju were present.
