C T Ravi, former minister and BJP MLA from Chikmagalur, has been appointed national co-convenor of the BJP membership drive. He is the sole representative from the South on the five-member national panel of the party.

Ravi is put in charge of eight states – all the southern states besides the Andamans, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.

Ravi said the membership drive was already on in the State. In Karnataka, there are about 40 lakh members and the target is to reach 60 lakh in the next three months. But the greatest challenge would be Kerala, where there are committed office-bearers, but no mass base.

Ravi said that while the party has maximised its membership in the northern states, there was scope to improve the network in the southern states.
