Election officials seized Rs 5.04 lakh cash from a person who was carrying it without relevant documents, at the Kankumbi check-post, Khanapur taluk, near Sural village, on Monday evening.
The check post borders Goa state.
Police said Savio Santan Bravo of Xavier Training College, Desur village in Belagavi taluk, was caught carrying Rs 5.04 lakh cash in his car bearing a Goa registration number.
At the Kankumbi check post, poll officials led by Surendranath Mathai, Assistant Executive Engineer, Zilla Panchayat Water Supply (Khanapur), found the cash while checking the vehicle.
It is learnt that Bravo was carrying the cash, allegedly meant for distribution among voters. Khanapur police have registered a case.
