The Central Bureau of Investigation has examined former Union minister K H Muniyappa and an independent MLA, R Varthur Prakash, from Kolar in connection with its probe into the death of IAS officer D K Ravi on March 16.

Congress leader Muniyappa and Prakash were examined on Wednesday in Bangalore by a CBI team to know the circumstances in which Ravi was working, sources said.

They said the examination was necessary to get clues about the circumstances in which Ravi was working and whether there was any pressure on him while he was posted as deputy commissioner in Kolar district where he reportedly took up cudgels against the sand mafia.

The quizzing is significant as Muniyappa, who was an MP from Kolar, and Prakash were regularly in touch with Ravi in connection with various issues of their constituency.

“It was a routine examination and they were not quizzed as accused. We have to know the circumstances in which Ravi was working,” said an official. The sources said the probe was still going on and the agency was awaiting the expert panel report from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
