The ministry of urban development, Government of India, has approved the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Rs 239 crore.
A high-powered committee of the Union government constituted to approve and monitor the progress of JNNURM projects met in New Delhi on Tuesday and cleared the revised plan.
“The revised DPR of ORR has been cleared. Some observations were made for which compliance was submitted by MUDA. Accordingly, the committee has cleared our proposal in the meeting,” C G Betsurmath, commissioner, Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) told Deccan Herald.
Initially, the DPR for Rs 219 crore project was approved by the committee of which Rs 54 crore had been released as first instalment.
The project got the approval for execution in four phases. However, MUDA decided to include the 9.33 km stretch of ORR, the link between Nanjangud Road – Bannur Road stretch, which had been left out during the construction of the ring road due to paucity of funds. Now, the stretch is included to make the existing ring road a 32.3 km six-lane ORR.
The revised project cost was prepared to be Rs 239 crore after inclusion of additional work on 9.33 km.
New layouts
The Centre would fund 80 per cent of the project cost, while the state government and MUDA would contribute 10 per cent each. The six-lane ORR passes through Lalithadri Nagar and other newly developed layouts developed by MUDA at the foot of Chamundi hill.
Though the revised DPR was submitted about six months back, the Central government had sought some clarifications. Suresh Babu, superintendent engineer, JNNURM and Shivakumar, superintendent engineer, MUDA were in New Delhi on Tuesday to reply to the observations.
“The revised estimates are approved. Second instalment for the ORR project would be released soon. The work on the project would gather pace in the coming days. The land acquisition along with 9.33 km ORR project has been completed and land alignment done,” an official told this newspaper.
The work on widening the outer ring road to six-lane is in progress from the funds released in the first instalment. MUDA has utilised about 70 per cent of the fund so far, the official added.
