The Centre has rejected Karnataka’s plea for 25% reservation for students from the state in the newly established Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Dharwad.

Minister for Higher Education Basavaraj Rayaraddi told reporters here on Saturday that Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has communicated the rejection of the government’s demand.

“The state government has allotted 500 acres free of cost for setting up the IIT. However, the gesture has not been reciprocated by the Centre. There are seven students from Karnataka at the IIT Dharwad and I will take up the reservation issue with the Centre again,” Rayaraddi said.
