A glass case of an idol of the Mother of Mercy at St Joseph Vaz Chapel at Paneer on the outskirts of Mangaluru has been vandalised by unidentified antisocial elements. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning. The chapel belongs to St Mercy Church, Paneer. 

Minister for Health U T Khader, who also represents the Ullal constituency, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kalyan Shetty, Ullal Police Station Inspector Savitra Teja and PSI Bharathi visited the place. A case has been registered at Ullal police station.

Khader said the miscreants had also destroyed a banner. He said the acts had been aimed at disturbing peace.

Mangalore Diocesan Bishop Rev Aloysius Paul D’Souza and Diocesan Secretary M P Noronha have condemned the incidents. They hoped the police would track the culprits soon.They also sought protection to all churches and places of worship.
