China is looking to increase its investments in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru, Le Yucheng, the Chinese Ambassador to India, said after meeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Wednesday.

“We are primarily looking at avenues to increase Chinese investments in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru. The primary agenda is to concentrate on the information technology (IT) and manufacturing sectors.

While China is the leader in factories (manufacturing), Bengaluru and India are leaders in the offices (services). We complement each other perfectly,” he told reporters after the 25-minute meeting.

Le, who will attend the inauguration of the office of Chinese multinational, Huawei, in Bengaluru on Thursday, said China was also looking at other avenues of investments.

“Presently, we are also involved in providing technology to the Indian Railways for their (proposed) high-speed train between Chennai and Mysuru.

Our contribution includes technical expertise in increasing the train’s speed and for laying the rail tracks,” Le added. Additionally, China is keen to partner with Karnataka in tourism, given the State’s rich heritage and culture. “I mean who does not know the Mysuru Palace?”

Earlier, during the meeting, Siddaramaiah invited Le to attend the Global Investors’ Meet (GIM) scheduled for October. Le replied that Chinese companies would certainly participate in the meet.

Siddaramaiah, after hearing from Le about his fascination for and interest in the heritage sites of Karnataka and the Carnatic classical music, invited him to visit Mysuru for a tour of the city.
