A Chinese delegation led by their Consul General Liu Youfa on Wednesday met Energy Minister D K Shivakumar to discuss possible investment opportunities in Karnataka in the power sector.

In a 30-minute meeting, Youfa is said to have conveyed to the minister that China was seriously interested in investing in Karnataka.

Shivakumar reciprocated by stating that Karnataka was open to Chinese investments in the sector, wherein the State is expecting to generate 12,000 MW of power each year.

The avenues open to investment also exist in wind and solar energy, the minister suggested to Youfa.

The meeting was a preliminary enquiry made by China in the backdrop of the Chinese Premier Xi Jinping visiting Bangalore sometime during mid-September as part of his likely visit to India.
