CID to probe excess payment to contractors

The State Cabinet on Friday decided to seek a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe into alleged excess payment of Rs 17.97 crore for contractors for land levelling work in Bidadi Industrial Area during 2000-01.


The lapses had been pointed out by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Primary and Secondary Education Minister Visvesvara Hegde Kageri told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

It is learnt that former legislator D C Thammanna was the Chief Development Officer of Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) during the period. Thammanna later joined politics. He had unsuccessfully contested on a BJP ticket from Maddur. The CID is likely to investigate his role in the alleged irregularities, sources said.
