The Hubballi case, where a woman alleged that the police disrobed her, will be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after receiving approval from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Friday.

“Discussions are ongoing. The CID has to probe the veracity of the incident and submit a report to the government. Then the government will see who is at fault and if there was any dereliction, and decide on the next course of action,” he told reporters in Bengaluru.

The Opposition attacked the Congress government after the video of a woman, said to be a BJP worker, sitting inside a police vehicle
partially unclothed, went viral recently.

The incident allegedly occurred during police action over a dispute related to the voter revision exercise in Hubballi.

Police have denied the charge, claiming the woman herself removed the clothes.

“Police did not allow the woman to be disrobed; they took immediate action. I have shared the information publicly that she did it herself. However, we are considering a detailed investigation. An investigation is necessary to know the clear facts,” Parameshwara said.

He reiterated that “no one has interfered in our decisions.”

“The chief minister and I discuss things and make decisions. I could have directly said that I would hand over the Hubballi case to the CID. But can such decisions be made without bringing it to the CM’s notice?” he asked.
