People were put to hardship at many places in the state on Sunday night and Monday.
Gusty winds and heavy rain affected normal life in the twin cities of Gadag-Betageri on Sunday night. The roofsheets of several houses were blown away due to the winds. A gruel centre has been opened at several places for the convenience of those affected in Betageri. The check dam in Lakkundi in Gadag district overflowed and the water flooded the nearby agriculture fields. Flooding of agriculture fields caused by heavy rain was reported from Shirahatti taluk in the district also. People living in mud houses moved to safer places as they feared that the houses may collapse any time.
The Magadikere bird sanctuary in the taluk is inundated due to rainwater. By evening, heavy showers were reported from Mundargi taluk in Gadag district.
Dilipkumar Vaijinath, 44, was struck dead by lightning at Halahipparga village in Bhalki taluk of Bidar district on Monday. Sanjana Namadeva Sagara, 25, died as lightning struck her at Madanur Shivara in Aurad taluk of the district. Kalaburagi city and its surroundings received moderate rain for around 45 minutes early in the morning.
People were put to severe hardship in Ballari city for the third consecutive day on Monday. Motorists faced inconvenience due to waterlogging on the roads. Water entered houses in many low-lying areas of the city. Waterbodies overflowed due to heavy showers in Pavagad, Gubbi, Madhugiri and Koratagere taluks of Tumakuru district.
Heavy rain accompanied by lightning lashed Shivamogga city for more than 30 minutes in the evening. Several roads in the city were waterlogged and houses in low-lying areas were flooded.
Power supply was disrupted for more than an hour in Bhadravathi, Thirthahalli, Shikaripur. Sagar and Hosanagar received moderate rain in the evening. Water level in Linganamakki dam rose to 1,783.35 feet against the maximum level of 1,819 feet. The inflow of water was 5779 cusecs.
